Do we make decisions based on facts, data, and figures — or are we actually more emotional? That was this morning’s topic in our room on Clubhouse.

An exciting round with a wide range of contributions and perspectives from participants, plus insights from brain research. The result? We make decisions primarily on an emotional basis, but we can take various measures to bring our rational side into play as well. That said, we should always keep in mind that the facts, data, and figures we gather as a basis for decisions are themselves shaped by our own constructions of reality. If we do research, for example, we’ll uncover different information than, say, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues would — simply because we look through our own lens, shaped by our own experiences. All the more reason, for truly important decisions, to take measures that neutralize so-called unconscious bias, even if they can’t eliminate it entirely. For instance, a diverse team can succeed together in making relevant decisions — such as an upcoming hiring choice — not just emotionally, but rationally as well.

Missed us this morning? Then simply join us starting tomorrow, when we once again explore an exciting new topic from different perspectives — every morning at 8am German time in the Deep Talk Club on Clubhouse.

We look forward to seeing you: Jan-Marc Pickhan, Jennifer Pickhan, Mona Tenjo, and Dr. Yasemin Yazan, the hosts of the Deep Talk Club on Clubhouse.

3 Myths Debunked – When Science Creates Knowledge! | Dr Yasemin Yazan

When Science Creates Knowledge!

Unfortunately, there is a lot of false knowledge on the market. Be it because, for example, research results are misinterpreted or false causalities are made, or because they are transferred to other contexts that were not even the subject of the study.

We pick 3 myths and show what science already knows:

- Why Maslow's hierarchy of needs is not a reliable basis for motivation

- Why personality tests are questionable as a basis for personnel decisions

- Why a quota is needed as an effective measure against Unconscious Bias
